One person is dead after a small plane crashed into the Merrimack River in Methuen on Monday, officials said.The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board said the crash involving a single-engine Van’s RV6A happened at about 2:21 p.m. North Andover firefighters were the first to respond to the crash site, which was in a part of the river that borders Methuen, Lawrence and North Andover.”We received a phone call from the Lawrence Municipal Airport’s tower reporting that they had a possibility of a plane down in the water. They lost contact with it,” said North Andover Deputy Fire Chief Graham Rowe. Essex County District Attorney Paul F. Tucker confirmed one person has died.
