OWOSSO, Mich. (WJRT) – When it comes to business ownership, sometimes the business takes on a life of its own. At least, that is what one Owosso couple discovered.
“We started out strong,” said Brandon Mead. “The first two weeks were great. And then, like any up-and-coming business, no one knew about us. So we were kind of scared that we were going to fail already.”
Brandon and Jennifer Mead opened their bakery in downtown Owosso, Cakey Cakes, in June 2022.
“A lot of customers had walked in asking if we made bagels, which we’d never done before,” said Brandon.
“I had never made a bagel in my life,” said Jennifer.
Jennifer, a cake decorator, got to work.
“Whatever people want, whatever people are wanting to buy, is what we’re going to do,” said Jennifer.
“That’s where we got the idea, from listening to the people,” said Brandon.
