DUBUQUE, Iowa (KCRG) – The partial demolition of the Brewing and Malting building in Dubuque could start as soon as Monday.

The demolition of the crumbling 120-year-old building has been delayed for months. It was supposed to start on March 18, but was delayed again due to issues with paperwork and insurance.

Last week, Dubuque city leaders said they’d start issuing fines if the demolition didn’t commence. The constant maintenance has led to road closures, which nearby businesses say has been hurting their bottom line.

Members of the Housing and Community Development Department say all utilities have been relocated, and the demolition contractor says crews are ready.

This week, they will move equipment including cranes and excavators to the site.

Next week, demolition will start on the upper windows and towers.
