Bib numbers drawn as Iditarod 2024 starting order finalized with 38 mushers [Video]

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – The order is set for the 2024 Iditarod as 38 teams will take off from downtown Anchorage for the ceremonial start on Saturday, led by honorary musher Wilson Hughes.

The first competitor out of the chute will be Anna Berington, who was visibly disappointed in drawing bib #2. While some mushers may have a favorite number, their bib ultimately means very little when it comes to the impact of the race.

However, an experienced veteran like Pete Kaiser said he prefers a number towards the beginning, so the first portion of the trail isn’t as beat up by the time it is his turn to start the journey to Nome. Kaiser pulled bib #26.

The first musher to pull a number was Hunter Keefe, who drew #10. Keefe fulfilled a lifelong dream when he reached Nome in his first Iditarod last year.
