Bray Wanderers hoping to raise 500,000 through fan crowdfunding [Video]

Football club Bray Wanderers is hoping to raise a minimum of €500,000 from fans and investors as it launched a crowdfunding campaign.

The League of Ireland First Division club, valued at €2m, is affording fans the chance to buy a 20% ownership stake, but the open-ended nature of the fundraising efforts could see fans owning up to a third of the team.

The fundraising campaign was launched in collaboration with Spark Crowdfunding, a Dublin-based equity crowdfunding platform. The chance to invest in the club is also open to Spark’s 12,500 registered investors.

Tony Richardson, co-owner and chairman of the club, said that it was a “fantastic opportunity” for Wanderers’ fans past and present to become “part owners of their club”.

He said: “It may seem a little far-fetched now, but we’d like to emulate the likes of Barcelona, a fans-owned club that is massively successful.
