Downtown Lynchburg upgrades to close section of Main Street [Video]

A portion of Main Street in downtown Lynchburg will be closed to traffic starting this week through January as the city begins a new phase of its Downtown Renewal Construction Project.

Traffic on Main Street will be closed from 13th Street to just before the intersection with Commerce Street. Pedestrians still will be able to access businesses along this section of Main Street, the city said Tuesday in a news release.

During the street closure, cars traveling northwest will detour onto Commerce Street, and traffic heading southeast on Main Street will detour onto Church Street.

Loading zones for deliveries to businesses impacted by the closure will be set up on 13th Street and at the corner of Main and 12th streets, according to the city.
