The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District and the City of West Sacramento hosted an Earth Day media event on April 22, 2024, along the Linden Road river access. Rep. Doris Matsui and Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works, Hon. Michael Connor, gave remarks following a short flood risk reduction project tour. The Southport Setback Levee was designed with nature in mind and created more than 100 acres of riparian habitat and more than three miles of shaded riparian habitat. This effort was completed by the California Department of Water Resources and the West Sacramento Area Flood Control Agency as part of the overall West Sacramento levee improvement project.
