LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Hardin County Schools is preparing students for a future in STEAM.

Hardin County is the first district in Kentucky to implement the We Build it Better – Reach Higher curriculum at all five of its middle schools.

It teaches students about innovation and invention, precision and accuracy in manufacturing, design and fabrication, tools and assembly, electricity and fiber optics, sensors and circuits, coding and more.

The district said by the end of the school year 8th-grade students will have a strong basis in business principles and workforce concepts.

“We’re hoping to see that they’re taking that pride in their work into other classes and in this class they want to work, they want to be successful,” said Kelly Everhart, North Middle School teacher said.

The program is made possible through a $95,000 grant from Altec.
