METAMORA, Ohio (WTVG) – School is starting up soon and teachers are starting to prepare, and that includes more than setting up classrooms. One district in Fulton County has a new safety system that they say allows them to respond to emergencies faster than ever.

Evergreen Local School District officials were awarded $300,000 in state safety grants, and they put the money towards installing the 911Inform security system.

School officials have been working since last summer to set the system up, and this school year it will be fully up and running.

Safety is always top of mind for school resource officer Kathy Zumfelde, and this year she said her district is bringing in a game-changing safety measure.

“I mean it’s going to save lives someday,” Zumfelde said.

In an emergency, Zumfelde is the only first responder immediately on the scene.
