New mail trucks to be made in Spartanburg County [Video]

SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – For the first time in three decades, the U.S. Postal Service is commissioning a new fleet of mail trucks and they’re being made in Spartanburg County.

Oshkosh Defense said it plans to build between 50,000 to 165,000 units over the next 10 years.

“It’s built really around safety,” said Oshkosh Vice President Business Unit Operations Paul Brazeau. “And if you look at the way we built that low step height positive tray position you looked at the visibility of the vehicle from the side windows the windshield and all of the camera systems that allow the operator of this vehicle to perform their duty safely you know there’s this purpose built for the postal carrier and that’s what makes this product from Oshkosh special”

To build the new fleet, Oshkosh Defense said it expects to hire more than 1,000 employees for the new facility,
