On Tuesday, voters in Jackson County rejected a 40-year extension of a 3/8th-cent sales tax by a wide margin.The extension would have helped fund a new downtown stadium for the Kansas City Royals and maintain and repair Arrowhead Stadium.The Royals had planned to pledge at least $1 billion from ownership to help fund a $2 billion-plus ballpark district in the Crossroads that would have received funds from the proposed tax extension. The Super Bowl champion Chiefs had committed $300 million in private money to an $800 million planned renovation of Arrowhead Stadium that would have benefited from the public money.Both reiterated in the lead-up to the vote that the sales tax passing was crucial to keeping the teams in Jackson County and in Kansas City.
