Texas starting running back CJ Baxter out for season [Video]

CJ Baxter, Texas’ starting running back, is out for the season with a knee injury sustained in practice on Tuesday.

Anwar Richardson of OrangeBloods.com broke the news, which was later confirmed by the Texas athletic department. Richardson reported that Baxter tore both the lateral collateral and posterior collateral ligaments in his knee and will have surgery that will sideline him for roughly nine months.

Baxter, a sophomore, began last season as the Longhorns’ starter before being sidelined temporarily by a foot injury. He ended up rushing for 659 yards and five touchdowns in a backup role behind Jonathon Brooks, who took advantage of Baxter’s injury to surpass 1,000 yards rushing on his way to being selected in the second round of the NFL draft by the Carolina Panthers.

With Baxter out again, junior Jaydon Blue likely moves into a starting role. Blue rushed for 398 yards and three touchdowns last season, averaging 6.1 yards …
