NEW YORK — A double take was required after the Yankees shared their starting lineup for Tuesday night’s game against the Mets on social media a few hours before first pitch.

Jahmai Jones is hitting leadoff?

J.D. Davis is batting fourth?!

Carlos Narváez, the Yankees’ third-string catcher who was promoted after Jose Trevino got hurt, was making the first start of his MLB career as well.

The post went viral. Yankees fans weren’t happy.

RESTORING THE GLORY

Manager Aaron Boone defended the changes during his pregame presser. With lefty Jose Quintana on the mound for the Mets, Boone wanted to give his left-handed hitters a day off and spread the lineup out. He said he believed Jones could provide a spark at the top of the order despite his limited playing time and Davis — who hadn’t touched the field since July 4 — would be a “presence” in the middle of the order.
