1.9m awarded to 51 Dublin city community groups from Climate Action Fund [Video]

Dublin City Council has awarded over €1.9m to 51 community groups, including sports clubs, resident associations and community centres, from the government’s Climate Action Fund.

The council’s Community Climate Action Programme invited community groups to apply for funding to take local climate actions that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promote active travel, improve resource efficiency, and protect nature. 

The funds were also allotted to reduce future impacts of climate change and strengthen community cohesion. 

The funding will allow dozens of community groups to complete lighting and heating upgrades, install solar panels and improve building insulation as well as provide bicycle parking and bike repair resources.

Funding has also been allocated for rainwater harvesting, repair cafés and clothes swap shops, and food growing in community gardens.

In addition to the 51 Dublin groups, St. James Community Garden in Belfast will also benefit from this fund through its partnership with City Farm in Ballymun.
