Medina plans to charge credit card fees by October [Video]

MEDINA, Ohio – Starting in October, the city plans to charge credit card fees to customers on expenses such as water bills and purchases at Spring Grove Cemetery.

“This is something I brought up to council a number of years ago and they didn’t want to do it at the time, but I think it has become more common and everyone is charging credit card fees now,” Finance Director Keith Dirham said.

Dirham said last year, credit card fees cost the city nearly $70,000 so he does think it is time to pass the cost of the fees along to the customer. He said the fees would not be charged at the Medina Community Recreation Center.

“The rec center is a little bit of a different situation where they are selling something that people don’t have to buy so there is a need to stay more competitive,” Dirham said. “People …
