Tigers center fielder starting rehab assignment with Toledo [Video]

DETROIT — Detroit Tigers center fielder Parker Meadows will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Toledo on Sunday.

Meadows has been out since July 8 with a right hamstring strain, but he’s been ramping up his baseball activity in recent days. He took batting practice before Saturday’s game and raced around the bases with teammates and coaches watching.

Meadows will serve as the designated hitter on Sunday. After a scheduled off day for the Mud Hens, Meadows will start in center field on Tuesday.

If all goes well, he could in Detroit by next weekend. The Tigers will eagerly welcome him back.

Meadows, 24, started the season on the Tigers’ Opening Day roster but was demoted on May 7 amid a prolonged slump. He was recalled in July and played well for a few days before suffering the hamstring injury while trying to steal second base in Cincinnati on July 7.
