MABEN, Miss. (WTVA) — A small town in Oktibbeha County will soon allow businesses to sell beer and wine.

Maben aldermen approved the new alcohol ordinance at a meeting on Monday, July 29.

This comes after the state recently granted the small town the status of resort.

This gives Maben and other qualifying small towns the ability to sell alcohol.

The argument behind this is that alcohol sales can boost tax revenue and increase tourism.

The town has a few steps to complete, like establishing permitting fees and advertising guidelines.

Businesses could be selling beer and wine by the end of August.
