Oregon State Beavers countdown to kickoff: No. 28, from walk-on to greatness [Video]

The Oregon State Beavers start the 2024 season Aug. 31 at home against Idaho State. The Oregonian/OregonLive will count down the days with mini-profiles of prominent former and current Beavers whose jersey numbers correspond with the days remaining until the opening kickoff.

Today, No. 28: Wide receiver Mike Hass.

Mike Hass

Bio: Hass walked on at Oregon State after not receiving a scholarship offer despite dominating during his senior season at Jesuit High School.

Hass caught 79 passes for 1,739 yards and 21 touchdowns while helping lead the Crusaders to the state championship.

He scored seven touchdowns (one on defense) during a big win over Central Catholic.

Hass was inducted into Oregon State’s Hall of Fame in 2023.

Key statistics: The 2005 Biletnikoff Award winner rewrote OSU’s receiving records book during his career and has remained highly ranked for nearly twenty years since his final season in 2005.
