Anthony Volpe lengthening Yankees lineup with power surge [Video]

NEW YORK — Not too long ago, Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe was completely zapped of his power, enduring a discouraging sophomore slump.

The changes he made coming out of his rookie season were paying off in April, resulting in a swift promotion to the leadoff spot, but he couldn’t make it last, bumped down in the lineup as his production started to plummet.

Since the All-Star break, however, Volpe has looked like a completely different player.

He’s been flashing more slug at the plate, driving the baseball with more authority while strengthening the bottom half of the Yankees’ lineup.

Volpe belted his fifth home run over his last 11 games in Saturday’s win over the Blue Jays, another fly ball that the shortstop elevated to the pull side.
