TULSA, Okla. — The Tulsa International Airport has seen an uptick in people being scammed into sending money to online partners for airline tickets and waiting at baggage claim for no one to arrive.
Victims of this scam wait for their online boyfriends or girlfriends to arrive, sometimes waiting hours, only to leave alone.
“When we talk to those people and try to make contact with those people and try to help them out, maybe they miss a flight or something, we learn that it’s been a romance scam where the person alleges that they’re coming to the airport and these people are here waiting for those people and they never show up,” said Dan Hansen, Tulsa International Police Chief.
In most cases, Chief Hansen said that victims are being scammed emotionally and financially.
