Rider on toy scooter hit by SUV at busy southeast Colorado Springs intersection [Video]

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – The operator of a toy scooter was seriously injured after being hit by an SUV early Saturday morning.

According to police, the victim was joyriding on a small electric scooter on Chelton just before 6 a.m.

“It was … during the early morning hour with no visible lighting,” a CSPD lieutenant said.

As the rider approached the intersection with Fountain Boulevard, an SUV was coming up to it from the opposite direction.

“A SUV was northbound making a left turn, and the two collided in the intersection,” the lieutenant said.

Police say the rider was rushed to the hospital, while the driver of the SUV stayed on scene and cooperated with the investigation. Currently, no one has been cited in the crash.

The collision shut down most of the intersection for a couple of hours.
