Neighbors in town of Cleveland oppose new tire landfill [Video]

CLEVELAND, Ala. (WBRC) – Some neighbors in the town of Cleveland, located in Blount County, say they’re concerned a potential tire landfill could impact their quality of life.

Cleveland Mayor James Sullivan says his town is a quiet community, and that’s the way neighbors want to keep it.

Five years ago, the town of Cleveland had an ordinance against a tire landfill that prevented B & B Tire Landfill from doing business. After buying more land on Hazelrig Road in Cleveland, B & B Tire Landfill is proposing again to put a tire landfill on this property, but not in the town limits of Cleveland.

Mayor Sullivan says his concern is the unwanted traffic in a small quiet town. He says with school traffic, the intersections, and Hazelrig Road, families worry about the safety of their community and how a tire landfill will devalue their property.
