Colleton Co. deputies charge Pennsylvania man in fire that killed parrot [Video]

GREEN POND, S.C. (WCSC) – A suspect from Pennsylvania is behind bars in the Lowcountry after deputies accused him of starting a house fire that injured a man and killed his pet.

Brian Jetter, 23, was arrested Tuesday and charged with first-degree arson and cruelty to animals.

These charges stem from an incident that occurred June 19, 2023 in Green Pond.

Jetter was reportedly a tenant of the residence that was involved in the house fire.

Deputies say an adult male victim was seriously hurt when he was awoken in the early hours of that June morning to his home burning.

He attempted to rescue his 28-year-old parrot, “Grey Bird,” but was “overcome” by the fire. The bird died as a result of the blaze.

Jetter was being held at the Colleton County Detention Center …
