Tucson, RTA money fued will take center stage at Tuesdays council meeting [Video]

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – The feud between the city of Tucson and the Regional Transportation Authority has been going on for a few years now and as a potential new ½ cent sales tax is being debated, the feud is heating up.

The RTA was formed after voters approved a 1/2-cent sales tax increase in 2006 to fund transportation projects across the area.

The city claims it is being shortchanged by the RTA, putting in about two-thirds of the funding but only getting about half of it back for its projects.

Those projects, like the improvements on 1st Avenue from River to Grant, took two years to negotiate because Tucson wanted to downscope the project over the RTA’s objections.

Now, the RTA is on board with a new proposal which will end up before the entire council for approval or rejection.
