Neighbours fans across the globe should give themselves a well deserved pat on the back this week – as the iconic Aussie soap opera has reached a milestone 200 episode mark following its revival.
As fans will remember, back in 2022 the axe fell on the beloved television institution when British broadcaster Channel 5, the principal source of funding, decided to cut their investment and the show was forced off air.
Luckily, due to an overwhelming reaction from heartbroken viewers, streaming service Amazon Freevee saw potential and recommissioned it, with new episodes airing weekly since last September.
The soap, which follows the lives and loves of the residents of Ramsay Street and their work at the nearby Lassiter’s hotel complex, will celebrate 40 years on air next March.
Originally broadcast on the Seven Network in 1985, the show didn’t rate well outside of Melbourne where it is produced, and after eight months the ‘final episode’ was broadcast.
