Scammers are using tactics like the Microsoft scam, IRS tax scam, Social Security/Medicare scam and law enforcement scams according to police.
TEMPLE, Texas — The Temple Police Department has seen an increase in online and phone scams targeting the Temple community.
Police say scammers are using tactics like the Microsoft scam, IRS tax scam, Social Security/Medicare scam and law enforcement scams to trick people into giving them money or personal information.
According to police, these scammers are asking for payments and then after you make a payment they steal your money using the information provided.
Temple Police urge residents to take these precautionary measures to protect yourself:
- Never give out financial or personal information over the phone or internet unless you can verify the person’s identity
- Don’t trust unsolicited calls
- Check for recent scam alerts by visiting IRS.gov, FBI.gov, identitytheft.gov and secretservice.gov.
Temple PD asks anyone who may suspect a scam to contact the department immediately at 254-298-5500.
