Massachusetts residents to assist with Hurricane Helene relief [Video]

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – Now that Helene has made its way inland, crews are starting to assess the damage in the hardest hit parts of the southeast, which will likely lead to an assist from people here in Massachusetts.

We caught up with Emily Mew, the director of emergency disaster services for the Salvation Army in Massachusetts.

She said her organization will tackle issues like food and drinks, as well as emergency resources, once they get on the ground in the disaster area.

She also said there’s a lot of trauma that comes with people being displaced or losing their homes.

“I know one of the things that they have already identified as a big need for deployment is emotional and spiritual care workers, being that this was a devastating storm, as so often happens in Florida, they’re looking for some support in that area,” she shared.
