COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) -The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) is sharing a video with the public hoping to help raise awareness of a crime that can easily go unnoticed.
KKTV 11 News has covered “credit card simmers” in the past. They are devices often placed on gas station pumps and used to steal credit card information. In March, Woodland Park Police highlighted a case where a skimmer was used at their City Market.
“Criminals use these small, discreet devices, often placed over legitimate card readers, to capture a consumer’s card information when they swipe or insert it,” Colorado Springs Police wrote in a news release issued on Thursday. “Once criminals retrieve the stolen data, they can quickly drain bank accounts or use credit card information for fraudulent purchases.
