Devastating Fire in Haines Displaces Families and Damages Local Businesses | Homepage [Video]

A devastating fire caused a lot of damage in the small community of Haines.

Kim Larson, who lives in Haines, shared a look at the blaze with Your Alaska Link. The fire broke out Saturday night along Front Street at the Haines Quick Shop building right next to the post office. The building houses several businesses and some apartments upstairs.

In a statement, Governor Mike Dunleavy noted that this fire has left families displaced and livelihoods severely impacted.

“Our hearts go out to those who lost their homes and businesses in this devastating event.”

A fire marshal is expected in Haines to investigate what caused the fire.
