The Nebraska Supreme Court ordered election officials to let people with felony convictions vote starting Wednesday. KETV NewsWatch 7’s Jessica Perez joined two people who’ve completed their sentences as they went through the process of registering to vote. In July, Nebraska Attorney General Mike Hilgers opined only the state’s board of pardons could restore felon voting rights and not the legislature. This happened two days before LB 20, was set to take effect. In April, lawmakers passed LB 20, allowing felons who completed their sentences to restore their voting rights. TJ King felt optimistic but nervous as he waited in line to activate his voter registration, for the first time since his release from prison. “I just checked my bag to make sure I had my ID in there,” King said.
