COOLVILLE, Ohio (WTAP) – The Village of Coolville celebrated the annual Octoberfest, but this year, it looked a little bit different.
Friends, family, and community members gathered in the Coolville Volunteer Fire Department meeting room to see an unveiling of a bronze statue of the former fire chief John W. Coen.
John W. Coen dedicated 64 1/2 years of service to the fire department and got his start when he was still in high school.
“The fire department, when there was a fire in town, and they needed help, he was still in high school, and they kind of just pulled him off the street and said, hey, can you help us fight this fire? And that was his foot in the door. And then they’re like, hey, would you join the fire department?” said John A. Coen, son of John W. Coen.
