Podcaster Blindboy Boatclub has hit out at new rules Apple have introduced to the Patreon funding app which comes into effect in November.

A new charge for the popular subscriber outlet Patreon kicks in from Friday morning after a deal had to be struck with Apple.

Since this deal was confirmed, content creators and subscribers alike have been speaking out against the tech giant’s tactics.

Essentially, in order for Patreon to keep their app in the Apple App Store, the company had to agree to a new 30% App Store fee which is applied to all new memberships purchased in the Patreon iOS app (which kicks off in November, 2024).

While this new charge won’t affect current subscribers, any new ones who sign-up through the Patreon iOS app will see this 30% charge taken out of their subscription fee.

Patreon has tried to combat the effect this additional fee will have on the creators’ pockets by giving them the option …
