BANGOR — The city of Bangor is looking to expand housing availability for residents who can’t afford market-rate homes but also don’t qualify for low-income housing.
And now, they’re one step closer to reaching that goal.
The Bangor City Council recently picked a developer to build up to 75 housing units on city-owned land to serve what they call the missing middle-income bracket.
Households that fall in this range make between 80% and 120% of the area’s median income — or roughly $58,000 per year.
“What we’re finding with that group is they make too much to get housing subsidies, but they are still priced out of market-rate housing,” said Anne Krieg, Bangor’s director of community and economic development.
