NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – The City of New Orleans announced a “moratorium” on construction and utility work starting Dec. 1 in the French Quarter and Central Business District.

In a release sent Friday evening, the city laid out the following:

  • The moratorium impacts work on public right-of-ways and utility infrastructure, not interior renovations or work off the right-of-way
  • The deadline for new applications for work is November 12th
  • Ongoing projects will not be held to a hard Nov. 30th stop date, but will need to provide demobilization plans during “critical periods” surrounding the Super Bowl and Mardi Gras
  • Scaffolding and construction dumpsters will not be permitted in the right-of-way

The new release is more detailed then an earlier release from Wednesday (10/30), where the city said contractors were “strongly encouraged” to follow a moratorium without additional details.

Fox 8 interviewed Andre Kelly, Vice President of Member Projects for the Associated General Contractors, before the new release came out.
