CORRECTIONVILLE, Iowa — The rebuilding of Correctionville’s Donation Den is minor in scale when compared to renovating a home or business.
But factor in the hope and assistance this small structure offers to struggling families and individuals, and the donation bin’s rebuild this fall could make a major difference.
“A lot of people in the community live on disability or Social Security and their income is limited, so they definitely utilize it,” Correctionville city clerk April Putzier said.
It began more than four years ago as a way for elementary school students to do something good in their community. To the surprise of some residents, it continues on, bringing out more goodness in those who, often anonymously, stock it with nonperishable food and personal hygiene items.
“We’ve got a few local people, we don’t even know who they are, they will fill the Donation Den,” Putzier said.
