ROCHESTER, Minn.-Olmsted County has new rules for businesses getting registered.

Olmsted County Public Health associate director Sagar Chowdhury said, “I think it’s really important for any prospective business owners to remember that it’s a two-step process so again, they have to apply for licensure at the state level but that doesn’t allow them to operate or sell at the local level.”

In the county there are some special requirements businesses need to meet, including paying the registration fee of up to $500 or half of the license fee whichever is less.

Chowdhury said, “we start the process of making sure it’s meeting zoning requirements and making sure it’s kinda meeting the information that we’re requiring in terms of application and things of that nature.”

Part of the application is showing proof of approval from the state and making sure the business is away from places kids will be.
