SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – Nearly 80 million Americans are expected to travel for Thanksgiving. According to AAA, almost 270,000 of those travelers will be South Dakotans.
Data from AAA shows that about 90% of South Dakotans will travel by car this Thanksgiving with roadways expected to see a surge in drivers starting Tuesday afternoon and increasing through Wednesday evening.
“Holiday travelers are mixing with people commuting home from work those evenings and so especially if you’re going through a larger city expect extra traffic and extra congestion. Sunday will probably be the biggest day for people to come back, but some people will come back on Monday,” said Shawn Stewart, public and government affairs manager for AAA South Dakota.
