1 dead after shooting involving Lovejoy Police Officer: GBI [Video]

LOVEJOY, Ga. — One person is dead, and an investigation is underway after a shooting involving a Lovejoy Police Officer started from seeing a suspicious car inside a parking lot, authorities said. 

According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, a Lovejoy Police Department Officer saw a suspicious car inside a county parking lot shortly after 8:30 a.m. on Saturday. When the officer approached the car to check the vehicle’s registration, the officer saw 40-year-old Jean A. Cesar of Hampton inside. 

The GBI said that Cesar appeared to be racking the slide of a handgun. When the officer gave Cesar orders to drop the gun, that’s when Cesar allegedly pointed the gun toward the officer. According to the GBI, the officer then fired his weapon in response — wounding Cesar, who …
