We need to be more than just a conventional philanthropy: New Hanover Community Endowment talks 2025 goals; unveils new funding system [Video]

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – The community received more information Tuesday night on the vision for leaders at the New Hanover Community Endowment, the group in charge of more than $1 billion of public money.

The group has used that money to award grants to nonprofits and other organizations working to improve education, community safety, affordable housing and other community issues.

Dan Winslow took over as CEO in October after the abrupt resignation of former leader William Buster.

Winslow said he wants to lead an endowment that does things no other philanthropic organization is doing.

“We need to be more than just a conventional philanthropy. We need to have a chance to do things that nobody else is doing, start solving really big problems, cause if we don’t, who will?” said Winslow.

Winslow and other leaders of the endowment discussed its goals for 2025.
