SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – The North End Bridge in Springfield carries thousands of vehicles day after day. The wear and tear on the bridge is starting to take its toll and raising concerns and one of our Western Mass News viewers reached out to us, concerned about what is being done to upgrade the bridge. The viewer wrote “I would like some information on why all bridges are getting repaired in Springfield, but not the North End Bridge?” and added that the bridge needs painting and paving to fix the bumpy surface across the bridge.
Western Mass News took their question straight to MassDOT to get answers. They said in a statement, “There is a replacement project in design phase for the North End Bridge in Springfield and MassDOT is currently evaluating the possibility of adding the bridge to a future bridge maintenance contract for potential repaving in the meantime.”
