AUGUSTA, Maine — Businesses and nonprofits in Maine that were impacted by last winter’s destructive storms can once again apply for storm relief funding.

On Tuesday, Gov. Janet Mills’ office announced a second round of applications for approximately $2 million in remaining funding through the Department of Economic and Community Development’s Business Recovery and Resilience Fund has opened for small businesses and nonprofits still weathering the economic effects of January’s storms.

The funding is intended to allow businesses and nonprofits to make storm-related repairs and strengthen existing infrastructure, and is part of a $60 million storm relief package approved by the Legislature earlier this year.

The first round of applications was launched in May, and the Mills Administration has awarded roughly $8 million to 109 Maine businesses and nonprofits, according to Mills’ office. Additional funds have been distributed through resilience grants to bolster Maine waterfronts and improve infrastructure.
