GLENVILLE, W.Va (WDTV) -The John and Ruth McGee Foundation is gifting, Glenville State University $100,000 for the next five years for a new scholarship program for primary education majors. The schools president says the new venture is a win for students.
“This will allow us, otherwise probably would have the opportunity to expand. To number one offer scholarships to students who want to go to college, who don’t have wherewithal, or financial means to do that,” said Dr. Mark A. Manchin, President, Glenville State University.
The scholarship funds awarded to pupils will cover to cover tuition, exam costs, and other expenses related directly to completing primary education degrees and teacher licenses. Grenville wants to combat West Virginias teacher shortage.
“2000, teachers throughout the state don’t have the accreditation, and certification to actually teach subject areas, they don’t have the background and that’s a great disservice to the students,” said Manchin, …
