LINCOLN, Neb. (WOWT) – Any Nebraskan who drives an electric vehicle or a plug-in hybrid can start budgeting for an extra yearly expense.
The Nebraska DMV announced Monday that starting Jan. 1, annual registration fees for EVs will double from $75 to $150.
A new $75 fee will be implemented for those who drive any sort of plug-in hybrid — cars, trucks, and motorcycles.
“Nebraska is committed to maintaining safe and reliable roadways for all drivers,” Nebraska DMV Director Rhonda Lahm said in a press release Monday. “These changes help ensure all road users contribute equitably to the upkeep of our transportation infrastructure.”
The fees will be reflected on renewal notices sent to owners of registered EVs and plug-in hybrids.
