Here’s what drivers and pedestrians need to know.
ALEXANDRIA, Va. — If you’re heading to Alexandria after Dec. 30, get ready for some major detours as construction begins on Duke Street. The closures, part of the WestEnd Alexandria project, will be in place until Aug. 1, 2025, so plan accordingly.
The closures will impact both the eastbound Duke Street to Van Dorn Street ramp and the Van Dorn Street to eastbound Duke Street ramp. These ramps will be completely closed to all traffic, including vehicles and pedestrians, during the construction period. The closures are necessary for the installation of new roadway infrastructure as part of the larger WestEnd development.
Drivers traveling eastbound on Duke Street toward the Van Dorn Street ramp will be redirected through nearby streets. The detour route is as follows:
- From Duke Street, turn right onto South Walker Street.
- Then, turn left onto Stevenson Avenue.
- Traffic will be directed onto Van Dorn Street.
