York parking changes create new fees for customers [Video]

YORK, Pa. — The new year is bringing new changes for parking in York, with new rates and hours set to take effect starting Jan. 6. 

Mayor Michael Helfrich’s announcement on Friday has left many local business owners concerned about how these adjustments will affect their customers.

The revised parking regulations will reduce hourly parking availability in its three garages, limiting it to just 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Previously, the city offered free after-hours parking, which will be replaced by a flat rate of $2, regardless of customers’ parking duration.

Local business owner Alex Hammond, who owns My Girlfriend’s Wardrobe, expressed frustration over the lack of communication regarding the changes. She noted that, until her interview with FOX43, she was unaware of the city’s decision to implement the new parking structure.
