Small businesses ask for support following winter storm [Video]

SHAWNEE, Kan. (KCTV) – In downtown Shawnee, you could see residents navigating around snow piles to head to their favorite local spot, enjoying their Friday night. It’s greatly needed and appreciated after a tough week for small businesses, said Christie Jackson, with Transport Brewery.

“Snowmageddon had definitely been a little bit of havoc, a lot of hard work, and kind of bittersweet in a way,” said Jackson. “It’s really great to have a snow day, but not really when you’re a small business. It’s pretty difficult to stay ahead of things when you have to shut down for three days.”

Founded in 2018, Transport Brewery says it is Shawnee’s first microbrewery. They have a second location in Gardner. Weekends are the brewery’s busiest; closing last Saturday and Sunday for the storm was difficult on them.
