A Pacific Palisades couple fled a fire that destroyed their home Tuesday. Now in San Diego, the Polakoffs seek housing near Balboa Park.
SAN DIEGO — Frank Polakoff and his wife never imagined leaving their Pacific Palisades home of 32 years, but a devastating fire on Tuesday changed everything.
Their 1,400-square-foot manufactured home overlooking Will Rogers Beach was reduced to ashes, leaving them with only their two cars and the clothes on their backs.
“I watched the news and I saw it burn down. There was nothing left,” Polakoff said, his voice breaking as he recalled watching the destruction from his daughter’s home in Culver City.
Polakoff is retired and his wife, who works as a caregiver and lived modestly in their mobile home community. Now, they’re facing the daunting task of starting over with limited insurance coverage.
“Insurance really doesn’t cover too much when you have to buy everything,” Polakoff explained.
