New zoning plans up for debate for two schools in the Chesapeake School District [Video]

CHESAPEAKE, Va. — Overcrowded schools can lead to several issues, one of the main ones being the potential lack of resources as well as the stressors it could put on students and staff. And Chesapeake Public Schools is dealing with that exact problem.

Technical innovation coach at B.M. Williams Primary School, James Schutte, said when constructing or rezoning schools, “we should consider the capacity for the building to hold the kids that are here in the present.”

Currently, students attend B.M. Williams Primary School during grades K-2, then they head to Crestwood Intermediate School for third through fifth grades. Due to both schools currently being over 100% capacity, the district posed a solution.
