State House committee holds first hearing on tipped minimum wage, sick time bills | Politics [Video]

LANSING, Mich. (WJRT) – In just over a month, major changes are coming to Michigan businesses.

That includes the beginning of the elimination of the tipped minimum wage, and new requirements to give all Michigan workers the ability to earn sick time.

Those changes were spurred a decision by the state Supreme Court last July, but lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are working to prevent that from happening.

Tuesday, the House Select Committee on Protecting Michigan Employees and Small Businesses, held its first heating. The focus was on the first two bills introduced in the new state legislature aimed at repealing those changes.

The hearing lasted nearly 3 hours long, and even in that time lawmakers were unable to hear from all 50 people who asked to testify.
