Meta to fire 5% of workforce starting with ‘low performers’ [Video]

Meta the owner of Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram, is set to slash about 5% of its global workforce, with the company’s poorest-performing employees set to be let go first.

Chief executive, Mark Zuckerberg, said he had decided to “move out low-performers faster”.

The news of the cuts was circulated to staff in an internal memo from Zuckerberg.

Employees who will be let go will be notified by 10 February in the US or later for those in other regions, while those laid off will be replaced by new hires.

In the memo, Zuckerberg described his intention to “raise the bar on performance management” and “move out low performers faster”.

“This is going to be an intense year, and I want to make sure we have the best people on our teams,” he explained.
